i want a baby

there i said it...put it out there in the universe...you blog followers will keep my secret, won't you?

cause that's all it is a secret desire...i would have three more if that was what God had planned for my life...but, alas, He planned one...so far (see, there is that hidden desire again)...

so, since i am not having any more babies (ouch), i have to take full advantage of others babies...

so get busy...i have cards ready...

apple of my eye

every fall we visit oak glen...we have been going since chicka was born...we love the crisp air, the friendly people, and of course, the apples!!!

there is a farm that we always buy our apples from...wood acres...the most wonderful older couple owns it and they are adorable! and, their apples are the best!  we also visit los rios for the apple pie...yummm...

Oakglen10052

 Oakglen1005
i used several companie's items on these layouts...which are and also are not a two page layout...it could go either way! melissa frances paper and stickers, dream street paper (the background), jenni bowlin milk caps, 7 gypsies milk cap image,  and october afternoon wild card (cherry hill)....i just love the old dictionary page i used...if you notice on the second page, it is perfect for the apple layout...right down to the 'apple of one's eye' definition right above the hubster's head...

i have the BEST apple cake recipe from wood acres and the BEST apple crisp recipe from los rios...i can't wait to go get those bushels so i can bake away!

inspiration

comes from everywhere and everyone for me...it can be a blouse that a customer is wearing, a gift card, or pillow...at totally random times i can feel inspired and sketch out a card or layout...

sometimes, i am creating and randomly recall something i saw on someone's blog and it just kinda works itself into my design...most of the time, i have no idea where i saw it or how it was done...it is usually my interpretation of what i actually saw...sometimes it could have been a year or more ago that i came across the idea...

people inspire me everyday...it can be through encouragement and support...their words in an email or comment...they keep that creative ball rolling for me...i made this card for one such person...

Growseeds
i am reminded of that saying about people being brought into our lives and they leave footprints on our hearts...it always amazes me how God works...He brings just the person we need into our lives just when we need them...and, i am grateful...always, forever, grateful...

blessings,
chelle

it's in the details:
the paper is jenni bowlin 'back porch', the bingo card is her's too...the seeds image is from crafty secrets, leaves are a SU! sizzix die, quickutz dies were used for the yellow and red papers...all is inked up with vintage photo distress ink

speaking of grandmothers

my other grandma...not the one i mentioned yesterday...was a tatter...she loved to make doilies...

when my father passed away, i received many things...trinkets and this and that...that belonged to my grandmother...this was inspired by those items, although they aren't the actual items...it all reminds me of her...

Strawberrycollage
i have recipe books and cards in her handwriting, doilies that she crocheted, broaches that she wore, buttons that she saved...although a lot of the things i used on this are new, it has a perfectly vintage feel to me...old and new grouped together, reminding me of the beautiful woman my grandmother was...

Grandmaneilson
and, what a cute baby she was too!!

thanks for reminiscing with me!
chelle

it's in the details:
the paper is october afternoon...the cotton lace on the left was sewn right onto the chipboard (which is the packaging from the jenni bowlin milk cap buttons...i just traced it onto my pattern paper and cut it out), the leaves are a SU! sizzix die...all was inked up with vintage photo distress ink...oh, and that vellum envelope peeking from behind the 'recipe card' is the package from some of the making memories vintage trinkets...

apples and buttons

i know...i use a lot of buttons...i can't help it! my grandmother had a basket of buttons that i loved...i would sit for hours looking through that basket! now my mother owns that basket of buttons and it still holds all those buttons along with many loving memories...

Applenote
when i make a card, i usually pull out several buttons that i think work on the card...then, when the card comes together, the obvious choice to me becomes clear...and i go with it...

i used the super yummy 'cherry hill' line from october afternoon for the card (the apple paper and the wild card)...the apple is cut with my silhouette (you can't tell in the picture, but the white layer of the apple and the middle of the leaf are popped up on foam squares)...

and, that large leaf behind the tag (spellbinders)...was an accident...i started cutting before i re-sized the apple for my card...i ended up adding the larger leaf because i had cut it out...and it worked out perfectly!

all was inked up with vintage distress ink...

a lovely card for a teacher...can you believe it is almost that time of year again???

copics and patterned paper

on the layout i shared yesterday there is a garden image from the 'earth love' line from cosmo cricket...it is cut out from one of the sheets of patterned paper...it looks like this...

003
i didn't want it colored solid on my layout, i just wanted to make it stand out a bit...so i used a few copic markers to do that...first, i used W1 (warm gray) to add a bit of shading...it is hard to see in the photo, but it added the perfect touch...

then, i used G21 (lime green) and G40 (dim green) to color the watering can...

020
once you click on the picture, you will see the shading a bit better...and, finally, i colored the shirt with R11 (Pale Cherry Pink) and R14 (light rouge)...and added a rosy cheek...

025
you do have to be careful when you use the copics on patterned paper...it acts differently than the card stock that i choose to do most of my stamping and coloring on...in this case, the shirt did bleed a bit (look at the hand once you click on the pic)...however, with a swipe of my blender pen once it was drier it disappeared...all was fine...and i am really happy with the results...

i have done this a lot with cosmo cricket's papers so i am getting a great feel for how much ink to use and not over saturate the paper...you will have to test your papers and get a feel for them (use some scraps for this) and you will be able to add a little custom touch to your cards and layouts...

mad skills

...yep, that's right...i got skills...

and, this is how it all began...and, then we moved on to this...

Smm373a 1431+kenmore+manual
i had this machine from 13 years old until my daughter was in kindergarten...i made every halloween costume and more window treatments than i can count...

next was a brother from costco and now i have a janome gold and the janome sew mini...i love to sew but i don't consider myself a talented seamstress at all...nor quilter...i do however, have enough skill to do this...

Sandbox2
oh, yeah, that's what i'm talking about!!! you see those lines? and thread showing? and crooked stitches? yep...talent, baby!!!

told you that you would see more sewing!! and, if you look closely (click away on the photo), you will see little ol' me just a month before my fifth birthday...1976...also just weeks before i became a big sister...i'm pretty sure you will love my plaid pants as much as i do...

i love these pictures...not only cause i was playing in the sandbox at my grandma's house (my favorite thing to do!), but because my big brother was actually playing with ME! that came to an end once he had another boy to play with...GI Joe won out over anything holly hobbie or barbie!!!

oh the memories...
chelle

paper is cosmo cricket's new line 'earth love'...the wee flowers are the new making memories 'vintage' line...all was inked up with frayed burlap distress ink..we'll chat more tomorrow about how i used copics on the garden image...
