buttons, glitter, glue, oh my...

this woman...oh how i adore her!!! she is not only amazingly talented...an incredible designer...but, also a loving mother and fabulous friend...she speaks to my heart on a regular basis...

6a00d83451de2169e2012876546e13970c

she inspires me with her beautiful creations everyday! this house is just freakin' adorable!!!! everything she touches is gorgeous...when i found the paper mache houses at a local craft store on sale, i knew that i had to make these for some special women in my life!!

here are my versions...

Xmashouse1

my friend and i had so much fun putting these together...we couldn't stop telling each other how cute they were...we have Melissa Phillips to thank for her inspiration!!!

Xmashouse2

we first painted the houses white, then cut (we didn't have the fabulous house stamp set from PTI to use like melissa did, so we had to make do) and inked (walnut distress ink) all the pieces of paper...adhered them then went to the decoration...

Xmashouse4

buttons for the roof, lace on the gables...tulle and a snowflake for the chimney...and, the best part...

Xmashouse5

GLITTER!!! it was so much fun to sprinkle the coarse glitter all over the little houses...the final, perfect touch!!

so, thank you melissa for your amazing inspiration, i can't wait to make the valentine houses!!!

Merry Christmas

Wishing all of you a wonderful Christmas...during your running around from relative to relative, friend to friend, neighbor to neighbor...remember to take just a moment and be filled with the love and joy of the true gift given to us all on this day...the birth of Jesus...

this Christmas, will forever be cherished and recalled with joy as my favorite...it was the generous gift of an anonymous customer that reminded me what it is all about...our family passed that gift on to one that needed it more than we did...even knowing that it may mean that we had no gifts under our tree, we gave it away...the money was not what mattered, it was the love behind the gift and that is what we passed on...it may buy a warm coat for each of the four children in the family, it may have helped feed them for the week...we will never know how it was spent, but what we do know, is that we received the best gift of all...a reminder that we have all we need through Him...and the gift so lovingly given...His son...we need nothing more...

Xmashouses2

Merry Christmas Friends!!!!

chelle

p.s. we shall chat about those houses tomorrow!!!

perfection in my imperfection

i am imperfect, i am unworthy, i am flawed...beyond belief...

yet, i am perfect...at least in the eyes of my Father...

kinda like this...

Tree09

yes, that is our tree...if you know me, you know this is NOT at all what our tree usually looks like...it is usually much, much bigger...usually much, much more decorated...usually has a theme...like the year it was a kids tree....full of vintage toys and a wood sleigh with a vintage teddy bear atop of the tree...not this year...

because times are hard, and there almost wasn't a tree...but my hero came home with this tree all proud of himself for finding one (home depot was out) and because we couldn't afford much...we have this little lopsided tree...perfect and adorable...just big enough for the single solitary gift that will be placed under it...

this year is a reminder that it isn't about how your house is decorated or how many gifts are under the tree...it is about being all that we are and need to be, through God...and the only gift i have and ever will NEED is the gift given to me by my Father...Jesus...whom was given not because we were worthy or deserving, but because we are loved...

and, that, my friends is the bestest Christmas gift ever given!

Merry Christmas and I Love You!!

vintage Christmas tags

i haven't been in the Christmas spirit...at all...not a lick...then, a Christmas miracle of my own (i will share the story some day...not today) and i am feeling blessed and grateful...i was feeling nostalgic and played with some vintage tags...

VintageChristmas

the sheet music was my grandmother's, the buttons came from my mother passed down by my grandmother (she had the most wonderful basket full of buttons that i loved to go through), the vintage stickers from a dear friend...the rest is all new stuff that  i had here and there...

VintageChristmas3

all papers were inked up with walnut distress ink, the silver glitter snowflakes (bosskut die) were inked with black soot distress ink...the tag itself was inspired by this tag that Tim Holtz did during his 12 tags of Christmas...i adhered the sheet music, tore it and then inked it...

VintageChristmas4

i did some that will be adhered to packages in place of a bow...

VintageChristmas5

cute, simple and adorable...with a vintage feel...just the way i like 'em!

i hope you are enjoying the season, remembering that it isn't about the gifts, the money (or lack there of) that really matters...sometimes we can get all caught up in the 'checking off the list' and running around trying to remember everyone we have to buy for...years like this, where money is short and spirits are dim...let's remember the ultimate gift that is the only one we really need...the gift of Jesus...given to us for no act we have done, not because we are worthy...just the opposite, we are truly unworthy...but He loves us that much...

...and, i am grateful to have been reminded...i am blessed beyond measure...

chapter 1012...or the next next chapter

i did mention that there were 'changes,' didn't i????? well, here is the second...

Bottom Drawer Designs

often forgotten and sometimes overlooked...something to be discarded by someone...a little tattered, a tad distressed...stained and torn...stuck in that bottom drawer while all the shiny new, fresh and perfect items are front and center, up at the top to be ooohed and ahhed over...

those forgotten ones are the things that inspire me...light me up...make me giddy at the possibilities...those forgotten scraps of paper, those worn and stained flash cards...those crumpled and used tickets...that twisted and folded seam binding and lace...those are the things i want to work with...those are the things that get glued and stapled to new papers, boxes, and tags...embellished with new and vintage buttons alike...

that is what Bottom Drawer Designs are all about!

i am hard at work creating items and designing the site...i can't wait to 'go live' with all the vintage deliciousness in just a few short weeks (think 'new year, new beginnings')...until then, a sample of just the sort of thing you may find on Bottom Drawer Designs...

Missbdaytag

this is a tag i created for my sister's birthday (happy, happy birthday miss!!!!)...it has all those things i love on it...the vintage flash card and sewing pattern, the seam binding and vintage pearl buckle...mixed all up with brand spankin' new items from making memories 'vintage findings' line...the earrings are something i picked up for her whilst in Seaside, Florida...they are crafted from sea glass and i thought this tag was the perfect way to present them!

thank you for stopping in and look for the launch of the website in January!!!

sadness...and a closing door...

i remember the day i locked the front door on Sweet Pea Cottage for the last time, it was heart breaking...there isn't a time that i haven't passed the old store front and not sucked in a  deep breath and felt a little tiny pain in my chest...i loved that store, poured my heart into it...adored my customers and was so very proud of everything i did within those walls...it wasn't easy to close that chapter in my life...

there would be other chapters...some that you would want to read through quickly and move on, others you would like to savor each word...maybe even wonder if you could re-read the chapter and get that same thrill as the first go 'round...

but, always, always the store occupies a spot in my heart...

i know this will be true for trish...and gilbert...and vivina...and arturo...and every 'good time girl' that has ever been...

the door will be locked for the last time, the heart break and tears will hurt...and then, a new chapter and another, and another...joys and sorrows will abound...Scrappin' Good Times will no longer welcome the wonderful customers through those doors...but each and every one of them (oh, those ridiculously wonderful students that touched all of our lives) will hold onto memories both hysterical ones and sweet ones...cause they have laughed and cried with us as we have them...

to trish, i say...bravo...so very well played...and, thank you...you have more strength than anyone i know!  just like everything in life, there are ups and downs...joys and sorrows...good times and bad when you own a store...thank you for openly and honestly sharing it all with me...thank you for letting be a part of your family...thank you for taking me for who i am and what i create, thank you for being who you are and true to yourself everyday...you may not wear your heart on your sleeve, but you generously offer it up to anyone for the asking...you can do this, you can lock that door for the last time and move forward into the next fabulous chapter...and freakin' rock it!

to michelle...thank you gorgeous! for seeing in me something that was worthy...i am forever grateful...i grew up and evolved into the brave teacher i am today because you took note of me...how you do all that you do amazes me, you are THE woman!!!! you are a wonderful designer and an even more amazing woman...i love ya!

to the 'good time girls'...oh boy, how do i even begin to thank you for your friendships, generous hearts, and unbelievable support? from my nerves before my first class, to my needy shopping days, to my panicked pleas for help, to my need to be a nerd and an anal freak, you were there...and allowed me to be there too...i adore you, am inspired by you, and can't wait to see what you incredibly talented ladies have in store for us next!!!

the chapter has ended, the page has been turned and the tears shed once again...the pen is to paper and so begins the next tale...
