Patchwork Fall 2012 Shenanigans

what an amazing day yesterday was! after a year, my partner (my fabulous and dear friend Michele...aka One L) and I loaded up the trucks and headed to our first event together since losing everything exactly a year ago...

sometimes getting back on the horse means you need to have some time to heal...just sayin'

we were excited and nervous to get out of the gate...Patchwork Santa Ana seemed like the perfect place to start again...several 'work days' and a few sleepless nights...and this is the result:

IMG_4957

our sign...a vintage drawer gone chalk board...i pretty much adore it...

IMG_4953

the booth got lots of compliments...they loved the vintage look with the bunting and quilts...

IMG_4962

the ephemera kits were a hit...

IMG_4968

this one was a favorite! we heard  a lot of stories about grandmas and moms collecting these stamps back in the day...

IMG_4975
the pinecone trees and sweet bottle brush shakers were top sellers...

IMG_4967

we didn't have the yoyos long...the baskets and the 4x4 mats sold fast (don't worry, we have more and they will be in the etsy store by the weekend!!!)...

IMG_4976

we also have a few of each design left of the bingo cards...also in the shop this week...

IMG_4959

it's funny...we kinda just do what we love and hope others like it as much as we do...

IMG_4958

just a few more random pics of the booth for your viewing pleasure...

thank you for sharing in our vintage loving dreams!!!

sunday junkin'

i enjoyed the sunshine today...a little junkin' in pasadena...and what i mean by 'a little' is a lot of little finds...

003 - Copy (6)
several of these items will be listed for sale soon, but one of my favorite 'keepers' is this mascara...

006 - Copy (5)

it's tiny and so stinkin' cute...and inside...

007 - Copy (6)

back in the day i don't think i would have bothered...but it sure is entertaining now...it's already found a home in my studio bathroom amongst other vintage make-up...

i love finding these little trinkets...and love even more to make something with the junk i find...here's a tag i made this week that says it all...

IMG_2730

the finding and the making is what brings me joy...so fulfilled as i head into april...it's going to be an amazing month...i can feel it!

stuff that life is made of

sometimes you are fortunate enough to find the time to do the things you love the most...and, other times, you let life get in the way...

this weekend, i managed to spend time with a fabulous friend, spend hours creating...getting inky, enjoy one of my favorite meals, hit some favorite junkin' spots, watch a great movie, eat homemade ice-cream right out of the ice-cream maker, and serve up and drink some fabulous coffee...

007
here is the little tag with big heart...by that i mean that i designed it to send out to some of our great customers at the emporium...

i LOVE  the new Wallpaper & Wood Stamp from Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous!

after stamping the background and inking the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, i stamped the swirly flourish from the set Artful Flight...adding a few dots of Flamingo Liquid Pearls...

the flower is vintage sheet music cut with the Tim Holtz Alterations Mini Tattered Florals Die from Sizzix...and i adore it!!! i popped a Basic Grey brad in the center and tied tulle around it

the leaves are cut from the Kraft Resist Paper Stash using the Tim Holtz Alterations Mini Branch & Leaf Die...i inked them with Peeled Paint Distress Stain then inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink...

Final touch...dyed seam binding...am i predictable, or what?

simple and sweet, with touchs of things i love!

010 - Copy (2)

the junkin' today was fun and inspiring...i don't have to come home with loads of goodies to feel successs...these are the few things i just had to bring home with me...the wee paper cuter is just so fantastic...

011 - Copy (2)

the details and wear on it are perfection...one of my new favorite things i own!

and...because i know you want to know, the movie? Money Ball...the meal, you ask? Felix...amazing Cuban Food in Downtown Orange...

IMG_2341

oh...yeah, and there was this...

IMG_2352

i hope you found some time for what you love this weekend!

Irvinependant

017 - Copy (6)

it's always too much to hope to find amazing quilts at a reasonable price, but 3??? just pure happiness...love them all!

i hope you have found some time to enjoy some junkin' of your own lately!

loss

i learned a thing or two about myself in the last week...crazy how i think i have learned so many life lessons by the age of forty...but there are so many to come...

i had a huge loss last weekend...and to my surprise, i feel a need to blog about it...

meet big blue...

173

some of you may recall that i finally realized a dream last march...a dear friend and i finally took the plunge and started selling at a local flea market...we were so excited and have had a fabulous time hunting down vintage deliciousness to sell...

IMG_1323

we have learned a lot along the way and have been so proud of our accomplishments...making fun things to sell and even going through our own collections and parting with some things we could bear to sell...

IMG_1311

all was going well...we were on the verge of adding more venues...we couldn't wait to see what was next for our little venture...

IMG_1322

now...this is the hard part...

big blue was taken from my driveway in the middle of the night...it was the truck we used for our business and along with my beloved old suburban, the thieves took everything for our flea set-up...all the personal collection display pieces, tables, canopies, and all the vintage merchandise...all the fun things we put our heart and soul into...all those things we took out of our homes that we told ourselves we could sell because we needed to make money...gone...

now...this is the easy part...

we go on...we grab ahold of eachother, we cry...we mourn the loss, we share the memories...we cry some more...

then...and only then...do we grab ahold of our boot straps and yank them up...we buy more tables, we buy more canopies, we search for more vintage deals, we make more fabulous projects, we make more vintage ephemera books & kits, we pour more of our heart and soul into our little business...and we move on...

because we don't give up...they don't win...we do...

we are strong enough, we are brave enough, we are crazy enough to give it another go...together...

176

so...look for us soon...at the little local flea market, at our etsy store, on our blog, and at the next indie arts craft fair...cause we got this...we can do this...we are only temporarily broken and closed for repairs...we will be back...bigger and better than before...we win, not them...

i love you one L!!!

sunday junkin' in the rain

my friend and i hit the irvine flea market this morning...in the pouring rain...we decided we were 'hard core'...and then we first bumped...and giggled

Photo

there were deals to be had...the folks wanted to make something since they were packing it in by 9 am...what's a little water to junk??

008
dirt cheap...all of these fabulous finds...cheap, cheap, cheap!!!

there was more, but that's a secret...just until tomorrow though...

i am so very excited to be announcing a new class tomorrow on the blog...i cannot even express the joy i have to be back teaching...seriously excited!!!

thanks for stopping in...i always appreciate it!!

tiddledy winks

sunday junkin' today was short, sweet, and fruitful...

013-1
there seems to be a theme lately...vintage toys...am i trying to stay in touch with my youth? i wonder...I was super excited to find that big box and baggie of marbles, super cheap and even had some steelies in there!

022 - Copy (2)
and, lest you think i am kidding about the vintage toy obsession...i can't seem to stop buying tiddledy winks! it was my favorite game as a little girl and i can't pass one up when i come across them!

i hope you found some time today to do something inspiring!

vintage deliciousness

for the love of all things vintage...what a fabulous day i had yesterday! lots of great junking, delicious food, and wonderful company...and, i even had hours of creative time...yay!

009 - Copy (4)
just a sampling of what treasures i found...i adore my new office chair!

014 - Copy (4)
my favorite find of the day has to be this incredible ledger...here's a peak at what's inside:

017 - Copy (3)
a household accounts boook from 1963 to 1966 for Merle & Virgil Knotts...and Mrs Knotts here kept every receipt...every stub...and i love it all!

019 - Copy (2)
it has been fun to look though the invoices and cancelled checks...i see a great mini book inspired by this ledger in the future!

and, here is the tag that i made last night...

051

i loved the way the Grungeboard watch faces came out...

002
I started by stamping them in Archival Ink - Jet Black, then using Weathered Wood Distress Stain to color them...

025
after trimming them, i added some splotches of paint with my Snow Cap Paint Dabber...

026
a final touch of Vintage Photo Distress Stain on the edges wiped with my finger tips to remove it from the paint and the final product is so cool...

027

this is a perfect paint technique to use for the Inspiration Emprorium's Monthly Challenge...run on over to the blog, play along, and you could win $50 in Emporium Dollars!

thanks for stopping by my little world today!
